Governance and Board
Generations Medical Centre is an independent, not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer community board. Being community-governed means the people who guide our direction are accountable to the community we serve, not to shareholders or private interests.
Our governance principles
Our governance is guided by a set of principles that shape how decisions are made and how we stay accountable:
We answer to the community we serve, and community voice informs our direction.
Our decisions prioritize fair access to care for those who have been underserved.
Care quality and patient safety guide our standards, supported by physician leadership.
We steward the resources entrusted to us responsibly and report on our work openly.
As an independent not-for-profit, we make decisions in the interest of patients and community.
Our commitment to accountability
We hold ourselves to high standards of transparency and stewardship. Independent oversight of our finances, clear reporting, and careful management of the funding entrusted to us are part of how we earn and keep the community's trust.
Get involved in governance
As a community-governed organization, we welcome members of the community who want to help shape the future of Generations Medical Centre. This may include becoming a member, standing for the Board, or contributing to advisory and committee work.
Community Partnerships
Generations Medical Centre was built on partnerships. No single organization can close the gaps in primary care on its own, so we work alongside hospitals, Ontario Health Teams, community agencies, and academic institutions to expand access and coordinate care across the system.
Why partnership matters
Our neighbourhoods sit at the meeting point of several health regions and include some of the highest numbers of people without a Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner. Working with partners lets us coordinate patient care, share referral pathways, avoid duplication, and connect people to the right support at the right time, whether that is a hospital, a specialist, or a community service.
Health system partners
These partners include Don Mills Family Health Team, Michael Garron Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, North York General Hospital, and Scarborough Health Network, along with our local Ontario Health Teams.
Community and social service partners
Because health is shaped by housing, food security, settlement, and income, we work with community organizations that help us reach people and respond to the social factors behind poor health. We are part of the broader Generations Toronto ecosystem, which brings together housing, long-term care, early childhood, and community programming alongside our clinical care.
Academic and research partners
We work with academic institutions to train the next generation of primary care providers and to study and share better ways of delivering community-based care. Our academic relationships support teaching placements and applied research.
